Protecting the Environment

Internal Recycling

We have a strong recycling policy in our offices and warehouses. All of our packaging is recycled or reused. We print as little as possible and send all invoices digitally.  Dry paper waste is recycled on a daily basis.

Packaging

Our vinyl is packaged around recycled cardboard cores sourced from FSC approved mills in the UK and Spain.

The woodchip that goes into making our pallets is also ethically sourced from FSC certified sources in Poland. Our vinyl is then carefully wrapped in  recycled polythene sheeting which then ensures that the vinyl is protected.

All of our packaging is recycled and our wooden pallets are reused in order to decrease waste and ensure that every element of our packaging is put to its best use.

Our Product

Suppliers

All our raw materials originate from renowned suppliers and comply with all applicable European legislations, notably REACH regulations. Raw material stocks are kept to a minimum in our production facilities.  This is to ensure that the likelihood of soil, air and water contamination are kept to a minimum.

At Chieftain Fabrics,  we are concerned with the long-term impact of our production on the environment.  We are constantly aiming to improve the recipe of our products to ensure that all the ingredients are of the highest quality and as sustainable as possible.

Our backing cloth is made from a mix of organic cotton and recycled polyester thread (rPES).   Organic cotton is grown using no chemical pesticides or fertilisers and has a much smaller impact on the environment than conventional cotton. (12 MJ of embodied energy per kg of fibre vs. 55 MJ [1])

Recycled polyester is made from 100% post-consumer polyester recycled plastic bottles (rPET).

It is considered a green option in textiles today because the energy needed to make the rPET is less than what is needed to make the virgin polyester in the first place AND we’re keeping plastic bottles out of landfills.  Various studies agree that it takes from 33% to 53% less energy to produce recycled polyester.
